Welcome to Our Nursery

We are delighted to welcome you to Our Lady’s Nursery, a warm and nurturing early years setting at the heart of our school community.

Our nursery is a small, specialist early years provision, which we see as a great strength. This enables our caring, experienced, and well-qualified staff to know each child well and to value them as unique, confident, and independent learners. We pride ourselves on providing a calm, supportive environment where children feel safe, happy, and ready to learn.

At Our Lady’s, we believe that children thrive when they are surrounded by warmth, encouragement, and positive relationships. Our provision is child-led, meaning that staff carefully observe, assess, and interact with children to understand their stage of development, individual learning styles, and interests. This approach allows us to plan meaningful learning experiences that support each child in reaching their full potential.

We recognise the vital role that parents and carers play in their child’s early development. Strong communication between nursery and home is central to our practice, and we actively encourage families to work in partnership with us to support their child’s learning and wellbeing.

Our dedicated team of early years practitioners is committed to caring for and educating your child throughout their time in nursery. We look forward to working closely with you as your child’s first educators, building strong foundations for their future learning.

Learning in Our Nursery

Learning in the nursery is carefully planned to support children’s progress across all seven areas of learning and development within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

  • For children under three, we focus primarily on the three prime areas of learning:

    • Communication and Language

    • Physical Development

    • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
While recognising and supporting development in the other areas where appropriate.

  • Between the ages of two and three, we complete a progress summary in the prime areas of development. Parents are invited to discuss this with staff and to agree ways we can work together to support their child. This information is then shared with the health visitor as part of the two-year check.

  • For children aged three and over, we observe, assess, and support progress across all seven areas of learning and development.

Each child is assigned a Key Person, who plays a vital role in helping them to settle, supporting their personal care needs, and building a strong, secure attachment. This ensures that every child feels safe, understood, and supported during their time with us.

Nursery Life within Our School

Our nursery is based within the primary school grounds and provides an ideal environment for children to begin their learning journey. Nursery children are regularly included in aspects of wider school life, helping them to become familiar with the school environment and supporting a smooth transition into Reception.
