Computing

At Our Lady’s Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils for a rapidly changing digital world. Our Computing curriculum is built around the Teach Computing scheme of work, a nationally recognised programme that provides a clear, well‑sequenced progression of skills from Early Years to Year 6. This ensures that every child develops confidence and competence across computer science, information technology, and digital literacy.

Through engaging, hands‑on lessons, pupils learn how computers work, how to write and debug simple programs, how to create digital content, and how technology is used in the wider world. The curriculum is designed to nurture problem‑solving, creativity, and logical thinking — skills that benefit children far beyond the Computing classroom.

Our Commitment to Online Safety

Keeping children safe online is a central part of our Computing provision. Online safety is woven throughout the Teach Computing curriculum and reinforced through assemblies, PSHE lessons, and regular communication with families.

We teach pupils how to:

  • Keep personal information private

  • Recognise trustworthy and untrustworthy online content

  • Communicate respectfully and responsibly

  • Respond safely if they encounter something worrying online

  • Build healthy digital habits and manage screen time

Our aim is to empower children to use technology confidently and responsibly, both in school and at home. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that online safety is a shared priority and that pupils develop the knowledge they need to navigate the digital world safely.
