Governing Board

The Governing Board of Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery plays a vital role in supporting the school’s vision and ensuring the very best outcomes for all pupils. Working in partnership with school leaders, staff, parents and the wider community, governors are committed to helping every child succeed and reach their full potential.

In line with guidance from the Department for Education, the core functions of the Governing Board are to:

  • ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

  • hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils

  • oversee the effective and responsible use of the school’s financial resources

As a Governing Board, we fulfil these responsibilities by:

  • setting the strategic direction of the school, including its vision, values and long-term priorities

  • providing both challenge and support to school leaders, acting as a critical friend to drive improvement

  • ensuring accountability for educational outcomes, safeguarding and the effective use of resources

Governors work closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders to ensure that all pupils receive a high standard of education and care within a safe, nurturing environment rooted in our Catholic values.

Our Governing Board is made up of members who bring a range of skills, experience and perspectives, including parent governors, foundation governors, staff representatives and local authority representation. The full Governing Board meets each term, supported by committees that focus on key areas such as:

  • Finance & Resources

  • Curriculum & Standards

  • RE & Spirituality

As a voluntary aided Catholic school, the Governing Board is responsible for contributing 10% towards the cost of building and maintenance projects. By choosing Our Lady’s, parents and carers become partners in this responsibility. We therefore invite families to support the school through a voluntary termly contribution of up to £15, which can be paid via ParentPay.

We are grateful for the continued support of our school community.

Governors value the views of parents and carers, as these help inform our work and decision-making. If you wish to share any feedback or raise a matter for the Governing Body’s attention, please contact the school office or email admin@our-ladys.hereford.sch.uk.
