School Council

At Our Lady’s RC Primary School, we believe every child’s voice matters.

Our School Council provides pupils with meaningful opportunities to contribute to school life, develop leadership skills and understand how to represent others respectfully and responsibly.

What is the School Council?

The School Council is made up of elected representatives from across the school. Members are chosen by their peers through a democratic process, learning first-hand about fairness, representation and responsibility.

Council members meet regularly to:

  • Share ideas and suggestions from their classes
  • Discuss ways to improve school life
  • Contribute to decisions that affect pupils
  • Promote kindness, respect and positive behaviour

Developing Leadership and Responsibility

Through the School Council, pupils develop:

  • Confidence in speaking and listening
  • Respectful debate and discussion skills
  • Understanding of democracy
  • Accountability and integrity
  • Responsibility for representing others

School Council members model our school values of being Ready, Respectful and Safe.

Making a Difference

Our School Council has been involved in:

  • Suggesting improvements to playtimes and equipment
  • Gathering pupil voice on playground improvements
  • Helping review lunchtime routines
  • Supporting charity events
  • Gathering pupil voice on wellbeing and learning
  • Contributing ideas for whole-school initiatives
  • Presenting ideas to senior leaders

Through these experiences, pupils learn how democratic processes work and how to represent others respectfully. By listening to children and acting on their ideas, we strengthen our school community and promote active citizenship.

Our Commitment

We are proud of our School Council and the positive contribution it makes to our Catholic school family. Through leadership and service, pupils learn that their voice is valued and that they can make a difference.
