At Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, we are passionate about giving every child a strong start in life. Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which includes both our Nursery and Reception class, provides a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment where young learners feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore.
Rooted in our Catholic faith and Gospel values, we believe every child is a unique gift from God, full of potential, and capable of flourishing when nurtured with care, encouragement, and high expectations. We aspire that, through the love of Jesus, every child should “have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
Our EYFS provision is designed to ignite curiosity and support development through meaningful, play-based learning. Children are free to discover, question, create, and problem-solve — both indoors and outdoors — supported by caring, experienced staff who understand how to stretch and encourage each child appropriately.
We follow the statutory EYFS framework, with a strong focus on the prime and specific areas of learning, including communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, numeracy, and expressive arts.
Nursery and Reception Cohesion: Our teams work closely together to ensure smooth transitions, consistency in routines, and continuity of care across the EYFS.
Child-Led Learning: Staff observe children’s interests and adapt the environment to reflect what matters most to them, building confidence, independence, and ownership of learning.
Language-Rich Environment: Children’s communication and early literacy are supported through songs, stories, conversation, and early phonics experiences.
Outdoor Learning Every Day: Our spacious outdoor areas encourage physical activity, resilience, creativity, and a connection with God’s world.
Catholic Values at the Heart: Kindness, respect, compassion, and a sense of belonging are woven into daily life, helping children grow in faith and character.
Inclusive Practice: Every child is known and valued, and provision is carefully adapted to meet individual needs so that all children can thrive.
We see parents and carers as vital partners in their child’s early learning journey. We encourage open communication, regular updates, and opportunities to be involved, through events such as stay-and-play sessions, workshops, and school celebrations. Together, we help every child grow in confidence, curiosity, and joy.
